Sara Freedman, PhD, is an Associate Professor and Head of the School of Social Work, Bar Ilan University, Israel. She trained as a clinical psychologist in the UK (Institute of Psychiatry, University of London) and as a social worker in Israel (Hebrew University, licensed since 1998).
From 2000-2016, Professor Freedman was the founder and Clinical Director of the Cognitive Behavior Therapy Unit, in the Department of Psychiatry, Hadassah Hebrew University Hospital, comprising of an outpatient service for depression and anxiety disorders, and a 2-year training course in CBT for mental health professionals.
Prof. Freedman's research has focused on the course and development of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), PTSD following terror attacks, the use of CBT as an early intervention for PTSD, and Virtual Reality treatment for PTSD.
Prof. Freedman is the Chair of the Israel Society for Traumatic Stress Research, a member of the National Council for PTSD in the Ministry of Health and chaired the “Day After” committee within the National Council regarding PTSD treatment recommendations for the Swords of Iron War. She also serves on expert committees advising the Ministries of Defence and Health.
